Week 3 Reading Notes Part B

 King Dasharatha wants Rama to succeed him but he is afraid that Rama will renounce the world and become a forest rishi. 

Dasharatha sends Rama into exile and his wife Sita and his brother Lakshmana decided to go with him.

Lakshmana guarded Sita and Rama and did not sleep at all in exile, but his wife Urmila slept for him.

Dasharatha grieves for Rama even when he is the one that sent him to exile.

Bharata and Shatugha returned and learned that Rama was send to exile and did not like it. They then go visit him to bring news of their fathers death. Bharate begs Rama to end his exile but he is to honor his father even after his death.

Rama visits Sutikshna and Sharabhanga

Viradha attacks but Rama and Lakshmana defended Sita and listened to the rakshasa to free him from that existence

Sita visits Anasuya, the wife of the rishi Atri.

Indra tests Lakshmana by sending a girl to try and get with him but he is a faithful man.

Shurpanakha sees Rama and wants him to marry her. He says I have a wife so she tries to kill Rama's wife.

Ravana visits Maricha. Maricha's mother was killed by Rama so he wants to go to the woods and kill Rama.

An Ascetic approaches Sita and begged her to feed him. Site goes to feed him and he turns into Ravana and he grabbed her.

Week 7 Storytelling

 The Pandava's The Pandava's, consisting of Yudhishthira, Bhima, Arjuna, Nakula and Sahadeva, are the five sons of Pandu. Three of the sons, Yudhishthira, Bhima, and Arjuna, were birthed by Kunti, who mated with three different gods, as commanded by Pandu. The two remaining sons, Nakula and Sahadeva, were born by Mardi, who had the sons with the Ashwins.  These five sons escape from Hastinapura, where Dhiritarashtra is king. Duryodhana, the son of Dhiritarashtra, is very upset to hear the news that the Pandava's are still alive. As for the king himself, he cannot find a reason to dislike them. Dhiritarashtra being the king, he decideds that he would like to see the Pandava's again and proceed to invite them back to Hastinapura. In order to gain the Pandava's trust, Dhiritarashtra gives them a part of the kingdom for them to rule themselves.
