Feedback Strategies

Image
The first article that I read was Be a Mirror . This article talked about how you should give feedback the same way a mirror gives feedback. A mirror's job is to reflect back what there is without judgement. This is saying that when we give feedback on writing, to make sure to not include negative comments about their blog. You are to be specific, focus on what the reader is doing, focus on the process, make sure it can transfer, and to take yourself out of the feedback. The second article that I read was the difference between praise and feedback . This talks about how giving positive praise to children for doing something is helpful in the fact that it will motivate them to continue wanting to learn. In doing this though, many parents tell them that they are doing a good job when in fact they could be doing a half good job. This will make the children have a lower bar for standards and end up hurting them. Mirror

I think that the best route for me to go would be to choose the topic of Indra the Thunder God. I think I will be able to be the most creative with this path while having fun with it. The first story that I could write about is Indra the thunder god either tagging along with Thor or going against him. A very cool story could be made out of this duo and it would be fun to try to create a good one. The second story I could do is writing about Indra's adventures. There is a lot of adventure that would give great ideas for alternate stories. The third story I could do is write about Indra's enemies. Indra slays a lot of demons so it could be really cool to talk about all of the enemies he has. Indra the Thunder God Source Link

Week 3 Story: Rama's Exile

Image
King Dasharatha wants Rama to succeed him as king. He only fears that Rama will renounce the world and become a forest rishi. Because he has suspicion about Rama, Dasharatha sends Vashishtha to ask Rama is he really wants to renounce the world. Rama understands that whenever one renounces the world, it is basically the same as renouncing God. He then told Vashishtha that he is ready to become king.  Word gets around about Rama to be the next king which upsets Manthara, the maid of Kaikeyi. Manthara then pursuades Kaikeyi to use her boons, that Dasharatha had promised her, to have Rama exiled.  Dasharatha honors his word and exiles Rama. Rama did not try to retaliate and agrees to this exile, but he wasn't the only one to leave. Once Rama's wife, Sita, and his brother, Lakshmana, heard of this exile, they immediately said that they would join Rama in his exile.  During Rama's exile, Lakshmana did not sleep but protected Rama and Sita throughout the night. Lakshmana was able

Silence the Critical Voices in your Head I liked this article because I feel like I fall into the same rut that Rajeev did. He finds the negative comments within a couple positive comments and lets it get to his head. Whenever this happens, his productivity and his attitude changes drastically which is never good. A good ratio is a 5 to 1 with good comments and negative comments. This will help you overcome the bad comments and let you figure out how to change for the better which could lead to a domino effect. A Simple Habit to Rewire Your Brain I liked reading this article because I feel like everyone can improve on this. Nobody has the perfect way of thinking but if you are able to change the way you think about certain situations instead of letting them get into your head, your whole mood can change. Instead of thinking about how someone said something negative about you, you can think about how you can begin to change that negative part of you and slowly get better at it. Brain

Indra, The Thunder God This storybook looks really interesting because I immediately thought of Thor from the Marvel cinematic universe. I absolutely love marvel and their movies so I would love to learn more about this Thunder God. Weapons of the Gods This story caught my eye because I would love to read about the weapons that the gods used. Wether its something simple like a sword or something with magical powers like a staff, it is always interesting to learn about the different types of weapons that were used back then. Voldemort's Reincarnation I could not skip by this story without clicking on it and reading a little about it. I have all of the Harry Potter movies downloaded on my laptop and have watched them multiple times. If there is an Indian epic that is related to the Harry Potter movies at all then I am all in for it. Ghost Stories... Where is Everyone? I think I would really enjoy reading more about this story. I enjoy reading about supernatural beings and watching s

The Hawk and the Snake's Heart Once upon a time, while Brahmadatta was king of Benares, the Bohdhisatta came to life at the foot of Himalaya as a snake. He grew strong and sturdy, and lived by a curve of a canyon.  Now at that time there was a Hawk dwelling in the sky. The Hawk's mate spotted the great frame of the snake, and she had a burning desire for his heart to eat. So she said to her lord, "Sir I desire to eat the heart of that great king of the snake!" "Good wife," said the Hawk, "I live in the air and trees and he hides in his underground tunnels: how can we catch him?" "By hook or by crook," she replied, "caught he must be. If I don't get him, I shall die." "All right," answered the Hawk, consoling her, "don't trouble yourself. I have a plan; I will give you his heart to eat." So when the Bodhisatta was slithering near the side of the canyon, after taking his final sips from a small puddle,

The story that I really liked was one called The Crocodile and the Monkey's Heart  by  Marie L. Shedlock. The main characters, well actually the only characters, of the story are the monkey, and 2 crocodiles. The wife crocodile has a desire for something that seems unattainable yet the husband croc says that he can make it happen. The husband crocodile tries to trick the monkey and it ends up almost working until the quick witted monkey bamboozles him back and gets out of the sticky situation. Crocodiles and Monkey's Heart

Week 2 Reading Overview

Image
I will be reading from the Tiny Tales of Ramayana. I find it very cool that our professor, Laura Gibbs, has written a book specifically for this class that tells the interesting stories in near 100 words. The two comic books that caught my eye was Stories of Courage  because of the cover picture of a sheep standing up for the herd against a tiger, and secondly Temples of India  because I have always been fascinated with temples and pyramids.   The two videos that caught my eye was Ancient Technology  because I love learning about how people back then carried out tasks without the technology we have these days, and secondly Underwater Cities  because that just seems like it is impossible even to this day so I am curious how to do this. Dasaratha's sacrifice to get sons I chose this picture because it looks like a mural that you would see on the wall of one of the ancient temples and wonder what the meaning of it was.
