Week 8 Progress

Image
Looking back on what I have done throughout this semester, I am very proud of what I have created with the blog and portfolio. My favorite part of what I have done is create the word press website to host my portfolio. My weekly routine is pretty good and I stick to it most weeks. If I don't follow the schedule perfectly, I allocate time in order to finish the week out. The class assignments that I enjoy the most is retelling the stories after we have taken all of the notes for what we have read. When I do have some extra time, I have been able to do some of the extra credit opportunities which are very cool.  Looking forward into the next half of the semester, I would like to explore more of the extra credit options and see what they are like. I do also want to avoid pushing off some of the work until the last minute and getting a better routine. Source

Week 8 Comments and Feedback

Image
Most all of the comments that I have received on my post have been very helpful to read. They work best for me when they not only point out the things that I have done very well, but also the parts that need a lot of work. The comments that can explain what they might do in each situation better help me understand what they are trying to get across, and have a better impact on helping me with my writing. I try to do the same when I comment on to others blog posts. I try to tell them things that I like about their stories and also places that they could improve. This is all done without anything negative being said, just a suggestion on how I think it could be better. Looking back to my introduction post, I really do enjoy looking at all the comments from others. I do like how my post came out and I do feel like I am connecting with others while commenting on theirs. I believe that the feedback assignments are very helpful. Source I chose this picture because I really do believe that o

Week 8 Reading and Writing

Image
Looking back at the reading and writing assignments, most of them are very interesting if you are able to keep track of what is actually going on. Many of these assignments have 13 different names that are very hard to pronounce so it sometimes gets confusing as to what is going on. But, after rereading some of the parts, I do understand the story and it is pretty interesting to read.  Looking at my website, I do really enjoy it. With me being a computer science major, I really do enjoy customizing this website to make it how I like. I didn't know if I was going to be able to fully create my website since I went with the litter harder option. After a little bit of messing around, I was able to finalize what I wanted the site to look like which is what I am most proud of.  Indraprastha I chose this image because I really liked reading about the story of the Pandavas. It was interesting to read about them going through a lot trouble yet coming out on top.  Looking forward, I think t

Week 7 Storytelling

The Pandava's The Pandava's, consisting of Yudhishthira, Bhima, Arjuna, Nakula and Sahadeva, are the five sons of Pandu. Three of the sons, Yudhishthira, Bhima, and Arjuna, were birthed by Kunti, who mated with three different gods, as commanded by Pandu. The two remaining sons, Nakula and Sahadeva, were born by Mardi, who had the sons with the Ashwins.  These five sons escape from Hastinapura, where Dhiritarashtra is king. Duryodhana, the son of Dhiritarashtra, is very upset to hear the news that the Pandava's are still alive. As for the king himself, he cannot find a reason to dislike them. Dhiritarashtra being the king, he decideds that he would like to see the Pandava's again and proceed to invite them back to Hastinapura. In order to gain the Pandava's trust, Dhiritarashtra gives them a part of the kingdom for them to rule themselves. This part of the kingdom becomes known as Indraprastha.  Yudhishthira is crowned the king of Indrapratha. Many people attend th

Week 7 Reading Part D

Notes from reading Yudhishthira wanted to make one last plea for peace but was too scared that Krishna, the emissary, would be captured. He sends him anyways. Duryodhana denies the plea for peace and plans to capture Krishna but cannot do so because Krishna manifests himself in his divine form. By doing this he cannot be taken as prisoner.  Krishna tries to change Karna's mind and switch sides, but she doesn't. Karna promises Kunti that the only son that they will attack is Arjuna, the others will be spared. Yudhishthira makes Dhrishtadyumna, Draupadi's brother, the supreme commander of his troops. The battle takes place on Kurukshetra. Arjuna doesn't like the idea of fighting his own family but Krishna sings "Song of the Lord" and manifests himself in his awesome cosmic form, Arjuna is ready to fight. Dhrishtadyumna tries to kill Drona but fails and he fleas. Bhishma draws blood from Krishna which makes Arjuna mad. Arjuna begs Krishna to not kill Bhishma. Am

Week 7 Reading Part C

Here are the notes from Tuesday's reading. Reading Dhirtarashtra hears about what the Pandavas are doing, collecting weapons from the gods. He builds a royal camp near the Pandavas to shame them. The gods don't like this so they send a gandharva to provoke Dhirtarshtra. The gandgarva captures Dhirtarshtra but the Pandavas lets him go. Living in the forest, the Pandavas are approached by a brahmin. The brahmin lost his staff and kindling to a giant deer so the Pandavas try to go after it.  They don't find it so look for water. A voice from the water says they must answer questions before they can drink, but 4 of them ignore and die.  Yudhishthira answers the questions and the brothers come back to life and get a gift of unrecognizability for their 13 years of exile. This was a test and gift from their father. They spend 12 years of exile in the forest and their 13th disguised as the court of King Virata. They all take on different roles. A problem occurs when Draupadi, the

StoryLab: Ted Talk Videos

Image
The Danger of a Single Story This Ted Talk was about falling into the tendency to take a single stories that you see on the news and placing everyone from that region into the same stereotype. In this Ted Talk, the speaker was talking about her real world experiences about coming from Africa. Her roommate was surprised that she was able to properly use the stove. She couldn't believe that her roommate thought that everyone from Africa was poor. She then fell into this single story phenomenon.  Imaginary Friends and Real World Consequences I enjoyed watching this Ted Talk because the speaker talked about a lot of relatable characters that most everyone knows. She first started off by talking about characters from the Harry Potter series. She talked about how everyone that has watched the movies or read the books have developed connections with the characters. She later goes on to talk about the Game of Thrones series, specifically about the red wedding. They killed off many of the

Week 6 Reading Part B

Reading Notes: Duryodhana doesn't like that the Pandavas are still alive Dhritarashtra cannot seem to hate the Pandavas himself Bhishma and Vidura want to make peace, Karna does not. Dhritarashtra sends Vidura to invite the Pandavas back to Hastinapura and gives them a part of the kingdom.  They build a great city called Indraprastha.  Arjuna goes into exile for 12 years and has two new wives, Ulupi and Subhadra. Yudhishthira is crowned king of Indraprastha.  Krishna attend the ceremony, as does Duryodhana with his uncle Shakuni. Shakuni tells Duryodhana that they can get back at the Pandavas in a dice game. They convince Dhritarahtra to build a Crystal Palace to rival the hall of the Pandavas. Virdura invites the Pandavas to the Palace for a game of dice and they cannot refuse. The first dice game does not go in the Pandavas favor as Yudhishthira gambles away everything he owns, himself, his brothers, and Draupadi.  Draupadi is given 3 wishes by Dhritarashtra. The first wish is t
