Week 6 Reading Part B

 Reading Notes:

Duryodhana doesn't like that the Pandavas are still alive

Dhritarashtra cannot seem to hate the Pandavas himself

Bhishma and Vidura want to make peace, Karna does not.

Dhritarashtra sends Vidura to invite the Pandavas back to Hastinapura and gives them a part of the kingdom.

They build a great city called Indraprastha.

Arjuna goes into exile for 12 years and has two new wives, Ulupi and Subhadra.

Yudhishthira is crowned king of Indraprastha.

Krishna attend the ceremony, as does Duryodhana with his uncle Shakuni.

Shakuni tells Duryodhana that they can get back at the Pandavas in a dice game.

They convince Dhritarahtra to build a Crystal Palace to rival the hall of the Pandavas. Virdura invites the Pandavas to the Palace for a game of dice and they cannot refuse.

The first dice game does not go in the Pandavas favor as Yudhishthira gambles away everything he owns, himself, his brothers, and Draupadi.

Draupadi is given 3 wishes by Dhritarashtra. The first wish is to set Yudhishthira free. Second to free her other four husbands. She declines the third and Dhritarashtra gives back all the Pandavas' possessions.

The second game of dice is for 13 years of exile, 12 in poverty, 1 in disguise. Yudhishthira loses and the Pandavas go into exile at the Ganga river.

Yudhishthira prays to Surya, the sun god and receives a copper bowl with endless food.

Krishna comes to see Yudhishthira and promises that Duryodhana and his allies will be punished.

Vyasa teaches Yudhishthira a great mantra that makes it possible to get weapons from the gods. He teaches Arjuna and Arjuna goes off for 5 years to gather weapons from the gods.
